Freelance web designer vs agency: who should you hire?

Both can build you a great website. The right choice depends on your budget, how big the project is, and who you want to talk to.

Short answer: for a small business website, a good freelancer is usually cheaper, faster and easier to talk to. An agency is worth it for big projects that need a whole team: custom software, many integrations, large budgets.

The real risks, and how to avoid them

The worry with freelancers is that they disappear. The worry with agencies is paying for meetings. Either way, protect yourself:

  1. See real work. Ask for live sites, not only screenshots. You can see my work here and concept sites you can try.
  2. Get a fixed price and a date in writing before paying anything.
  3. Own your domain and site. The domain should be in your name from day one.
  4. Pay in steps. For example half to start and half before launch, never 100% up front.
  5. Ask what happens after launch: who fixes things, and what it costs.

What working with me looks like

You message me on WhatsApp. I send a fixed price and launch date. You pay 50% and send your photos and text, I send the design in 1–2 days, you get two rounds of changes, and the site goes live on day 7 after the second 50%. You own everything. Prices start at $190; see the prices page or read how much a website costs.

Quick answers

Is it cheaper to hire a freelance web designer?

For a small business website, usually yes. Freelancers have lower overheads and you pay for the work, not the office. Agencies make sense for large, complex projects.

How do I know a freelancer is reliable?

Look at live sites they built, get a fixed price and date in writing, keep the domain in your name and pay in steps, like 50% to start and 50% before launch.

Talk to the person who builds it.

I'm a freelance web designer working with businesses anywhere. Fixed price, ready in 7 days once I have your photos and text.
