Short answer: for a clothing brand that plans to grow, I pick Shopify. Its Basic plan is $39 a month ($29 if you pay yearly). Wix is cheaper at the start: its Core plan, the first one that takes payments, is $29.77 a month on yearly billing. Wix works if you sell a small collection and care most about how the site looks. Pick Shopify once stock, sizes and orders start to pile up.
Clothes are harder to sell online than most products: sizes, colours, returns, and photos that sell the fabric. That changes the choice. Here is how the two compare on the things a clothing shop actually needs, with prices from each company's own pages.
What it costs
- Shopify: Basic $39 a month ($29 yearly), Grow $105 ($79 yearly), Advanced $399 ($299 yearly). It adds a 2% fee on Basic if you use an outside payment provider instead of Shopify Payments.
- Wix: on yearly billing, Light $17.77 a month, Core $29.77, Business $39.77 and Business Elite $159.77. Its plans page lists payments and online-store tools starting from Core, and a free domain for the first year.
So Wix is about $10 a month cheaper at the entry level. That gap closes when you add apps you need on either platform, so compare the plan you would really use, not the cheapest one.
What a clothing shop needs
- Sizes and colours. Each product needs variants, and each variant needs its own stock count. Check how many variants per product your plan allows before you load 200 pieces. I could not confirm Wix's limit on its public page, so ask it directly.
- Payments you can trust. Both take cards on the plans above. Check which gateways work in your country, because it differs a lot between countries.
- Photos that sell. This depends on your theme and your photos far more than on the platform.
- Order handling. Printing labels, tracking orders, handling returns. Shopify is built around this day-to-day work.
Design freedom vs a store that runs itself
Wix lets you drag things anywhere. That feels great on day one and can lead to a store that looks different on every page. Shopify themes are more fixed, which keeps a shop consistent and makes it easier for me to hand over a store you can run yourself.
Which one for which brand
- Wix fits a brand with a small drop of 20 pieces or fewer, strong photos, and an owner who loves changing the layout.
- Shopify fits a brand with sizes, repeat stock and orders arriving daily, or one that wants to sell on Instagram and across borders.
- Start without either if you only sell through Instagram DMs. A simple site that sends customers to WhatsApp is the cheapest first step.
My take
I choose Shopify for nearly every clothing brand. The orders and stock work are what takes your time, not the page design, and Shopify is built for that. I would still tell a tiny brand with one capsule collection to try Wix first, and spend the money saved on better photos. Photos sell clothes, not platforms.
Where this falls short
I compared the prices on each company's own pages on 24 October 2026. I did not run test orders on both, and I could not verify Wix's limits for variants and stock, so check those before you commit. Fees and plans change. If you want to see what a Shopify clothing store looks like, my clothing store page has a demo. For the full cost picture, read how much a website costs.
Quick answers
Is Shopify or Wix better for selling clothes?
Shopify is better for a clothing brand that will grow, because sizes, stock and orders are its strength. Wix is fine for a small collection where the design matters most.

Shopify Basic is $39 a month, or $29 if you pay yearly. Grow is $105 ($79 yearly) and Advanced is $399 ($299 yearly).
Do I get a free domain?
Wix lists a free domain for the first year on its paid plans. A domain usually costs about $10 to $20 a year after that, on either platform.

Yes, many shops start by taking orders in direct messages and WhatsApp. A store becomes worth it when order handling starts taking more of your day than making the clothes.
